Why do I consult?
Design Consulting is the boots on the ground, in the trenches with the client and their design team.
Consulting brings the extremes of risk and reward. Hopefully the later more than the former but I find the greatest rewards are intangible.
Sharing my skills and knowledge to colleagues from a wide variety of backgrounds and industries but learning so much more in return.
As a consultant the obvious impact is providing a service of filling a resource or knowledge gap to get the job done. Once the product is complete and the project done, my hope is to leave a positive mark on the team that I have spent time in the trenches with.
It could be to:

Ease the strain when internal resources are overwhelmed by project load and timelines.

This can occur be the period between when one staff member departs and to allow time for the next right one to be engaged.

To fill a knowledge gap within the team.

This is great for teams with young or less experienced members who need a little mentoring as the gain experience and knowledge.

How do I consult?
This is all about becoming a part of the furniture, getting up to speed and getting the job done. From outside the organisation, I look like an employee.
It is embedding with the team on a short, medium or long term basis.
I can work onsite or remotely or a mix of the two.
I can use inhouse software or bring my own workstation and licensed seats.
